Salem Viola Day! ***CANCELED***

***SORRY, FOLKS! THIS IS CANCELED!! PLEASE HELP US GET THE WORD OUT. WE’LL POST A NEW DATE SOON. THANK YOU***

On Sunday, September 14th we’ll be gathering at 2pm in the Mary Stuart Rogers Music Center at Willamette University for an afternoon of excellent viola action.

The afternoon will start with a masterclass with Joel Belgique, an incredible musician and teacher. If you are interested in playing in the class, please email Miriam (miriamenglish@hotmail.com)- this is not an opportunity you should pass up! In case you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting the very personable Mr. Belgique, just take a peek at his bio on the Oregon Symphony site.

After the class, which will feature the Brahms E-flat Sonata among other great works, we’ll have a short demonstration of unknown works for viola and piano by Salem gem Karen Vincent and the duo Nocturna.

The day will wrap up with a play-in, where we’ll break into small casual groups and read some chamber music. This is a great way to connect with fellow violists and we encourage students and pros of all ages to jump in and give it a go. We’ll provide a variety of tunes for you to try.

In short:

Come learn something,

hear something new,

and play something awesome

with fellow VIOLISTS!

What could be better than that?

Kick-off, Meet-up, Play-in!

The Fall 2008 Oregon Viola Society Newsletter should soon be arriving in the mail, packed with events and information for you and your violist friends. (Email miriamenglish@hotmail.com to be added to our mailing list.)

We’d like to invite you to our kick-off event this Sunday, August 31st at 2pm at the Central Branch of the Portland Public Library. That’s at 801 SW 10th in downtown Portland and we’ll be in the US Bank room.

Come chat with us about the coming year, have a snack, play some viola ensemble music and relax among your fellow violists! We’d love to connect with players of all levels and ages.

Bring a music stand, your viola and your violist friends.

Hope to see you there!
