On Sunday, June 3, from 7 – 9:30 pm, eight violists and their colleagues converged on The Old Church in Portland, OR to play a night of wonderful music – all celebrating the viola! Audience members were treated to music ranging from lyrical selections, some old-time viola fiddling, and a composition where the viola imitated the market cries of village vendors from rural Sicily. The photo is from the grand finale – Apocalyptica’s ‘Faraway’ scored for eight violas (and a few other friends) – what a sound! Many, many thanks to all the musicians, who donated their time and talent to make this concert happen. Huge thanks to all who donated so generously to the OVS’ fledgling scholarship fund – we’re off to a great start! Miss the concert? Keep checking the website for future activities – we’ve got lots of things planned!
